The
SCBWI is holding two events next week focusing in on critiquing, one in Utah
County and the other in Salt Lake. Writers can bring their work to be evaluated
and possibly connect with others looking for a writer’s group.
We
are not sure how this is going to work. Generally, a critique group meets with
certain expectations and set procedures. Colleagues and friends, checking in on
the latest version of a manuscript they’ve followed for a while, bring copies
to be critiqued. Or they may have sent something ahead of time.
The
SCBWI format will be different because of the unknowns. It is uncertain how
many authors will attend, as well as the age group they are writing for. There
is not the familiarity of friendly writer’s group members and the trust that
comes with that will not have been established. Also unknown is the critique
experience level of those in attendance.
Nevertheless,
we are going to go ahead with it. The agenda will be something like this: a
brief description of the concept followed by time to share and critique. There
will be opportunities to network with others about forming a group.
Time
and place for the sessions are:
Wed., 1/22/14, 7:00-8:30 pm -
Millcreek Library - 2266 E. Evergreen Ave (approximately 3400 South) Salt Lake
City UT 84109, Room C
Thur., 1/23/14, 7:00-8:30 pm
- Orem Public Library, 58 N. State
Street, Orem, UT 84057, Media Room/Auditorium.
Hope
to see you there.
